I’ve been artistic ever since I was young. I was held back in kindergarten for not following directions. When I was told to color the elephant pink, I chose blue. I was always able to color in between the lines though, haha. I could always draw things from my head. In high school I earned straight A’s in my art classes and struggled for C’s in most everything else. I’ve always loved to create things with my hands so I took up welding after working for my dad in his machine shop. From there I became a boilermaker, but my favorite job as welder was building cranes. I also love making furniture and combining metal with wood.
I’ve had balance issues since I was 18. Every year it was getting worse so I decided I needed to see a doctor because my balance was starting to really become an issue. After multiple visits to different doctors I finally got an MRI. They called me that night to let me know I had brain tumor in my cerebellum. After even more doctors and now neuro surgeon’s, I ended up at the Mayo clinic in Minnesota.
I had brain surgery Feb of ’10 and had to relearn my motor skills and how to walk again. It also caused nystagmas in my eyes, meaning they wouldn’t work together. I had double vision and would lose focus, so for a month in a half I had to wear the patch and use a walker. Not being able to drive for well over a year I started painting.I still have some eye issues and balance problems, but I see it as a blessing in disguise. Without going through a life changing experience, I don’t know if I’d be as happy as I am today, nor would I have found what truly makes me feel alive… to create art!
It’ll be two years Feb 11th, since surgery. I found my passion in life and never plan on giving up on my dream to paint for the rest of my days on this amazing planet. I want to be able to share my feelings through my work. I want people to feel the energy that comes from my art.
