Jim Plaxco

Jim Plaxco is a digital artist and photographer. He specializes in abstract art, algorithmic art, astronomical art, computer art, and space art. His commissioned work has appeared in textbooks and on magazine covers. His art has also been flown in space. In addition to using commercial graphics software to create his art, Jim uses software of his own design. “My ability to write my own graphics programs makes it possible for me to create digital art that is uniquely my own.”

Jim’s introduction to computer art came while pursuing his masters degree, at which time he was able to gain admittance to the first MFA computer graphics class offered at NIU. “Thematically my art is a reflection of my intellectual interests and is representative of an artist who is neither left-brain nor right-brain dominated. In fact I do not subscribe to the proposition that an artist should confine themselves to only one subject and style. The digital artist should consider himself to be an explorer on this new ocean of creative possibilities.”

Jim has judged space art contests for NASA, the National Space Society, and the International Academy of Astronautics and is a frequent lecturer on computer, algorithmic, astronomical, and space art.

A selection of Jim’s art can be viewed on his web site www.artsnova.com
